Well...guess what happened now? Another water pipe issue located in the attic and dripped down the ceiling and crown molding. Lucky I caught it probably within a half hour so damage is less than expected. I was able to go out and turn off the water right away. Will have to again take down ceiling drywall and replace and repaint. Same room the guest/Bob office which I just finished redecorating.
The interesting piece of information comes from three different professional plumbers. They are all taking at least seven calls a day for the same issue. A pipe gets a pin hole in it and the water spews out. This issue is not confined to California. And it is not defective copper piping. According to the plumbers the water companies are using chemicals, specifically Cloramine a combo of chlorine and ammonia to disinfect water. This chemical seems to affect copper piping causing it to weaken and create the pin hole leaks. There are hundreds of law suits going on with contractors suing the water companies after being sued by clients for damages caused from the piping.
The only pipes affected are the cold water pipes in all the cases.
After googling and reading more than I wanted to know there is nothing one can do about it. Re-plumb the entire house and get some type of charcoal filtering system.
A water company in CA rejected a builder's claim saying their job is only to make water safe for the customer consumption and not to consider pipe issues. Huh? Okay if this process eats through copper pipes how is it safe for the consumer?
