Lynn, I am occasionally asked to bring a package by friends or family on my travels. It's usually a gift for a relative or a card of some sort.
Here's how I handle a request.....
I tell them that when I go through airport security, I'll be asked a few questions including a) whether I packed my own bags and b) whether I've been asked to transport any items on behalf of a third party. I tell them that when I mention their envelope or package, security will open it so they have to leave it unsealed.
Most of the time they still want me to take it, sometimes not. Either way I'm off the hook and haven't offended anyone.
So I would tell your friend that the envelope will have to remain unsealed for the reason above. It's probably a letter and some money.
