I am very grateful for everyone's  responses.   I was almost embarrassed to write about it, but I'm glad that I did.

Thanks Rhaj. Now I have the real legal info, and of course I'm not going to be bringing anything to this woman.   I think that I would be too nervous, and that wouldn't be good for my blood pressure.

I have information from my agent, Road Scholar, and they tell me that I can't buy any cigars to take home, which is apparently allowed in Canada.   Canada is much more lenient that the U.S., and I am not going to do anything to land in a Cuban pokey.

I know that we are allowed to bring gifts, but it's a confusing story.   One website says that you shouldn't insult people by giving them your old clothes and others tell you to bring your old things.

Monday, I do intend to call the tour leader, but I pretty much have decided that I don't want to do this favor for a mother of a boyfriend of a casual friend of mine.   I have no idea as to who she is and what her politics are...it's just too iffy a situation.
