Ooops!  Spoke a little soon -- at least about the healthy part. smiley: eyes

'Pears I forgot my long-standing rule of auto maintenance:  Any major job will always draw blood.

And a steering gear is ... well ... major.  30 pounds of steel casing bolted to the frame.  Never done one before, and I don't know anyone who has. (but I know it *can* be done -- and I needed to prove it to myself).

But not without the near-certainty of mishap.  So, here I am happily bolting this pig to the frame -- the 5" bolts are going in REALLY hard.  And bam! -- the 1/2" ratchet pops off the bolt, and the arm nails the underside of the bumper. And I'd been sooo careful pulling the pitman arm off the lower shaft (which is kind of hairy).  Just got a little distracted/careless.

Not bad really. Probably doesn't need the superglue repair.  And now I know I've worked on a truck.

And it beats the hell out of drafting interrogatories and gawdawful court motions.

Nice little hackle farm you've got there. Be a shame if anything happened to it.
