One of many reasons that place is a swamp self-perpetuating dysfunction and wholesale misinformation.

Even Jim contributed to some misinformation -- inadvertently -- when he suggested to ruudii that he "taper off" alcohol.

That sounds logical ... and that's the approved and effective method with many drugs.  Particularly benzodiazepenes.

But it CANNOT be done with alcohol.  I don't know why ... I don't know if  anyone knows why.  But it simply doesn't work.

That's why detox centers are always "cold turkey" -- with the use of benzos (usually Librium) to ease the withdrawal effects and likelihood of seizure.  And fwiw, if the person is sufficiently addicted to alcohol to bump into the DTs (delirium tremens), the mortality rate is in the region of 5% -- with medical care.  You gotta work pretty hard to get to that level, but I've seen it (as has one of my closer friends -- regularly -- because he runs "Intake" at a local detox).

But I see THAT knucklehead is gonna "taper off" Valium -- BY USING ALCOHOL!

And those brainless farts let that kind of crap sit on the front of a "Support Board" ... waiting for some desperate sucker to read it?

And god forbid anyone should confront that shit -- or you'll be told you're "negative" or "hostile" or breaking some "rule."

Nice little hackle farm you've got there. Be a shame if anything happened to it.
